Stay Fresh, based in Gardena, California, is the newer brand that competes most directly with Harvest Right on price per square inch of tray space. Its 5-Shelf model lists at $2,699 on sale, close to the Harvest Right Small’s regular price, yet it has more tray area than a Harvest Right Medium. Here’s how the two compare across the spec sheet, the warranty, and returns.

Where Stay Fresh is stronger (on paper)

  1. Tray space per dollar. At $2,699 for 800 sq in, the 5-Shelf costs about $3.37 per sq in, vs about $4.59 per sq in for a Harvest Right Medium at its $3,095 starting price (calculated from list prices).
  2. First-year coverage includes the pump explicitly, and Stay Fresh advertises 60-day returns.
  3. Oil-protection hardware. A motorized ball valve is designed to keep pump oil vapor out of the chamber, and the machine uses replaceable solid-state relays and a stainless drain line.
  4. Serviceability claims. Stay Fresh pitches its machines as fully serviceable, with batch QA testing in California.

Where Harvest Right is stronger

  1. Cheaper way in. The Small is $1,895 on sale. Stay Fresh’s cheapest model is $2,699.
  2. Oil-free pump option for any size ($1,495 upgrade at purchase).
  3. 15A-circuit Large. The HR Large needs only a dedicated 15A circuit.
  4. Track record and support material. Harvest Right is the longest-established home brand, and its support site publishes manuals, software updates, and a problem-diagnosis guide.
  5. Layaway at 0% interest with a $250 minimum down payment. (Stay Fresh also advertises 12-month layaway.)

Support and owner feedback we could confirm

  • Harvest Right: Its support site lists a pre-batch checklist (drain valve, door gasket, oil level, door compression) and asks for machine log files when problems persist; out-of-warranty support carries a nominal fee. One archived r/HarvestRight thread describes a new Medium that lost vacuum after about ten batches, a multi-day wait for a technician over a holiday week, and a return offer with the 15% restocking fee plus freight. That’s one owner’s account, not a statistic.
  • Stay Fresh: Stay Fresh shows a 4.93 average from 164 reviews on its own collection page, and it advertises free lifetime technical support. Those reviews are seller-hosted, and the Large page showed no reviews yet. Public, independent discussion of the brand is limited.

Neither brand publishes failure-rate data, and we found no independent large-sample reliability study.

FAQ

Is Stay Fresh made in the USA?

Stay Fresh says every machine is designed, QA-checked, and supported in Gardena, California. Its pages don’t say where every component is manufactured.

Does Stay Fresh have an oil-free pump?

Its current lineup lists Premier and Commercial pumps, both oil pumps. No oil-free option appeared on its collection page on October 11, 2026.

Which has the better warranty?

Both offer a full year 1 and refrigeration coverage through year 3. Stay Fresh explicitly includes the pump in year 1 and advertises 60-day returns. Harvest Right’s year 1 also covers its Premier and oil-free pumps. On returns, Harvest Right’s policy allows a return within 30 days of shipping, less shipping costs and a 15% restocking fee. Read both warranty and return pages before buying.

Why are Stay Fresh’s listed “regular” prices so much higher than the sale prices?

Stay Fresh shows large standing discounts (for example, $600 off the 5-Shelf). Compare the actual checkout prices, not the size of the discount.
